Our Campervans
Our 6 campervans are Toyota Granvias, converted to an amazingly high standard by
Wellhouse Leisure, one of the UK's premier converters of campervans. We really love these campervans, and having used many different campervans ourselves in the past, Wellhouse Leisure's own quote sums up why we're confident that these vehicles are perfect for Big Tree Campervans: '
Anyone can put in a hob and a sink and say "it's a camper!" All we can say is take your time and compare our conversions with others, then you can see for yourself the difference in quality.' If you are interested in what Wellhouse Leisure do then click

We've named all our campervans after beautiful trees which you are likely to see on your travels around Scotland: Birch, Alder, Spruce, Rowan, Larch and Oak.

You'll definitely notice the higher driving position and superb visibility of the Granvias, which means you really can soak up the views as you're travelling along.
Big Tree Campervans are right hand drive, automatic, with a 2.7l petrol engine. They have a whole bunch of safety and comfort features such as ABS, twin airbags, air-conditioning, central locking, power steering, high quality CD player with MP3 port and more... The height is a very manageable 2.1m (2.6m on the Hi-Top campervan), , and at only 4.7m long, 1.8m wide, there's no worry about driving around any of Scotland's narrower roads. There are 5 travel seats: a driver's seat, a front passenger seat (which swivels to face the rear when stopped), and three rear seats, two with 3-point belts and one with a lap belt.
Elevating Roof or 'Hi-Top'
Elevating Roof
Five of our campervans have the fantastic elevating roof, which means you can easily sleep four in comfort inside the campervan. During the day, the roof bed folds away into the roof so you've got lots of generous headroom space inside the campervan.
Hi-Top

We have recently added one 'Hi-Top' campervan, which has a really generous permanent headroom space, and even more storage options than the elevating roof. It is designed to sleep two, so it's perfect for couples. It can of course seat five, so with the addition of an external awning, you can create sleeping space for the whole family, have more interior storage space, and permanent headroom!
The Layout
The conversion of our campervans is their biggest selling point. They include:
- An elevating roof or permanent Hi-Top which gives plenty of liveable space and great headroom.
- A sink, on-board fresh and waste water tanks
- A two-burner gas hob
- 40 litre fridge with freezer compartment
- 12v power outlets
- 240v outlets when connected to a mains hook-up
- Loads of storage space including wardrobe hanging space
- A generous 6' x 4' double bed and a 6'x 3'7" double roof bed in the elevating roof
...add to this the powerful heater, and you can see why Big Tree Campervans are perfect all year round.
Storage Space
We're often asked how much storage space there is in our campervans and the answer is always 'a lot more than you think!'
Kitchen Storage
We know that being able to cater really well on a campervan holiday is an important part of the whole experience. You'll have a full range of cutlery, crockery, pans, kettle, cafetiere, and even a clever toaster which sits on the gas burner! We also make sure you've got the little things which make all the difference - like having a good chopping board, a decent size colander, peeler and graters, and at least one very sharp cook's knife. All of these tuck away nicely in the storage cupboard and the kitchen drawer.
Food Cupboard
We find the simplest way to store your food is to use this big, deep cupboard, which has plenty of space. We also supply a range of plastic boxes which fit neatly into this space so you can get at your food easily.
Rear storage
There is plenty of space at the back of the campervan for boots, bags, and more clothes. We supply a neatly fitting plastic box for part of the under seat rear storage if you want to store a mix of 'wet' and 'dry' things inside the campervan. It's also easy to store things on the rear-facing part of the bench seat, and you can access them as easily from the rear door of the campervan or from inside. This picture below on the left shows the safety cupboard where the gas canister, the 20m electric hook-up cable, the water filling hose, and the wheel brace are all kept. The picture on the right shows other things you can store at the back!
Under seat front storage
You'll find there's yet more storage space under the main bench seat. If you've booked one, the Porta-Potti (a really cunning, portable flush toilet) fits neatly in the main space, and if not, it's another great place to store boots, more food or clothes, whichever you choose. The Webasto heater is also under here, and we've added another neatly fitting plastic box so you can use the space next to the heater.
Wardrobe
There's a deep cupboard to store your clothes, and hanging space above this for full-size coathangers. Either use your own bags, or just store things loose in here.
Fridge
The good-sized Waeco fridge has 40litres of well designed space, and a small compact freezer compartment. It's a compressor fridge, fitted with an energy accumulator, which is much more efficient than an absorption fridge, and operates off the 12v leisure battery or off the mains when the hook-up is connected on site.
Sink & Hob
The Cramer stainless steel sink has an electric water pump, with 38litres on-board fresh water tank which is more than enough for a few days use. There's also an on-board waste water tank. The Cramer two-burner gas hob comes with a clever fold-up toaster so you can be sure of a full breakfast if you really want one! Importantly, both sink and hob have glass tops, giving you plenty of usable worktop space.
Table/Dining Layout
We've found that flexibility is the key with the table layout. We provide a good sized, free-standing table with a tripod base which can be easily moved around inside the campervan, whether you're preparing a meal or sitting down to eat. This table can be used outside as well. Inside the campervan there is a second swing-out table which can be used when the front passenger seat is swivelled round. This means that four people can sit comfortably and eat together... and with the addition of the small tripod seat we supply, this can be increased to five!
Beds
The main bed is a 'rock 'n' roll' design, which means that transforming the rear bench seat into a bed is simplicity itself - simply pull the seat base forwards and the four cushions slide flat, creating a very comfortable 6' x 4' (1.83m x 1.22m) double bed. During the day, the double bed in the elevating roof campervans folds up into the roof itself, with a handy space at the front to hold duvet & sheets or sleeping bags. At night, two simple catches release the roof bed to create a 6' x 3'7" double bed (1.83m x 1.1m), complete with a really comfortable built-in mattress. Even if there are four of you plus a 'little one', we can provide a hammock style bed which fits over the front seats.
Electrics System
The campervans have two batteries - a normal car battery, and a second, 85Ah leisure battery. The leisure battery will keep things powered (fridge, water pump, sensible use of the lights) for a couple of days 'wild camping'. When you're driving, the leisure battery is re-charged. When you're at a campsite with a 230v supply, simply plug the hook-up power cable into the van, and you'll have all the power you need, including being able to run things like phone chargers or DVD players from the normal 240v electric socket in the campervan.
Solar Panels
Two of our campervans have a state of the art Solar Panel fitted which help keep the leisure battery fully charged. If you are planning on doing lots of wild camping, then this will be ideal as you can spend even longer running only on the leisure battery, with no need to have an electric 'hook-up'.
Good Music System
All our campervans have a really good quality radio/CD/MP3 player, with speakers in front and back. The MP3 socket is a single jack plug, Most of the MP3 connections have a specific Ipod adaptor, and all of them have a single jack plug connection point, so remember to bring along whatever cables you need!
Heating
Fitted as standard is a Webasto warm air heater. It's powered directly by the engine (even when the ignition is off), and so you can use it whether the campervan is hooked up to the mains, or running off the leisure battery. It's a really powerful heater with responsive controls and will get the campervan toasty warm in just a couple of minutes, and the built-in thermostat means you can stay cosy all night even in the middle of winter.
Roof bars
We chose high quality Reimo elevating roofs because they are strong enough to fit roof bars. Obviously you can't raise the roof with a couple of kayaks still strapped on top, but it does give you the flexibility to carry more 'on top' and easily unload it when you want to set up camp.
Tow Bar
All our campervans come with a single electric tow bar. Again, this gives you the flexibility to choose whether you want to use a rear-mounted bike rack, which can carry up to four bikes. We also have a range of 'wet boxes' which fit on the tow bar, and are a great way to stow any really wet or dirty gear like wetsuits, very muddy walking boots, kayaking kit, or just wet swimming towels.
